The Duncan residents will observing World Religion Day on January 20, 2008. It will be held at the Mercury Theatre, from 2- 4- pm. The theme of this year’s event is “the unification of the hearts of mankind” and the goal is that, worldwide, one million prayers be offered on that day for the healing of the planet. We have invited other religious groups to participate, both in the public celebration and in their own communities.

Our celebration will include a formal devotional program of prayers, readings, music by the Concenti Singers, also be a time for spontaneous prayers, and a time for socializing. There will be displays by visual artists including Darlene Gait, Richard Gibson and others. It promises to be an inspiring and unifying afternoon.

Please join us in this opportunity to meet and pray with people of other faiths and please invite your friends and contacts. Address: 331 Brae Rd. Duncan
It would be most appreciated if people could also bring finger foods – muffins, cookies, fruit, cheese, anything that can be served simply.

We are pleased to inform you that our Baháí Community in Barrie, Ontario, Canada, is planning on a day of prayer on Sunday, 20 January 2008.

In addition to obtaining publicity in the local media, we are sending invitations to all religious organizations in Barrie, local government officials and other leaders of thought, and in each neighbourhood where there are Bahá’ís we will be holding devotional meetings for our friends and families. These devotional meetings will be scheduled throughout the day in sequence so that everyone who wishes may participate in one or several or all of them. In fact, there is growing enthusiasm for a core group (open to increasing numbers of course) to begin with dawn prayers at the first household and continue throughout the day going from home to home ending with a final get-together at 7:30 p.m. Each gathering will last about two hours with prayers, refreshments and social time.

World Religion Day 2008
Dearest friends gathering together in prayer,

While everyone strives to get together in this busy world with so many important activities going on in our lives I decided not to rely solely on those who could gather in one place at a particular hour. I have the opportunity that day to be with many friends in my community and each time I meet with new friends we can share the attached prayer. Through the grace of God I have been enabled to encourage my family, friends, co-workers and neighbors to also think of each other as we pray for the world from wherever we are on that day on whatever time. Working together in this way I can visualize a spiritual network of prayer across the country and the world.

Baha’is in our community are engaged in inviting our neighbors to join us in regular gatherings for spiritual upliftment and empowerment through devotions, forming Bahai spiritual education classes for all ages and awakening to the multitude of opportunities to serve humanity in powerful ways. We are particularly focusing on small group study circles and devotions, childrens classes, spiritual empowerment groups for junior youth, and learning to understand how to support the youth of the world in their endeavors to serve humanity in these and many other ways. We each have the spiritual capacity to contribute to the betterment of the world.

I have distributed prayer cards (attached is an electronic copy) to all of my friends and family either in person or by email and encouraged them to include the prayer in their personal devotions on January 20, 2008 and for each friend who has accepted, I have given an extra prayer card to a friend.

Pembroke Pines celebrates World Religion Day.

Last year the Baha'i Assembly initiated the Celebration and the UN Chapter of Broward County joined to cosponsor. When we asked to use the Library's Auditorium, the Library joined in cosponsorship also. Then, just In the middle of the program, and since the place was so crowded, the Vice Mayor who delivered the Mayor's Proclamation, suggested to have a larger place for such events. As a result, instantly, we were given the City's Susan B. Katz Theater for this year.

Last month the City Manager of Pembroke Pines approved for the City Newspaper to cover the event and for the City's PR to do the publicity.

The youth/children group of following religions will share what they have practiced to do at their own gatherings:

American Indian - Baha'i - Buddhist (Chinese) - Buddhist (Vietnamese) - Catholic - Christian - Hindu - Jewish - Muslim - Sikh - Zoroastrian.

We cordially invite you and your friends to add to the success of this, now a City Government involved program, by attending and enjoying this Celebration.

When: Sunday, January 20th at 1:30 pm
Where: Susan B Katz Theater at 17189 W. Sheridan St. Pembroke Pines, FL. 33331

The Greensboro, NC recent observances have been sponsored by FaithAction International House and the Piedmont Interfaith Council with support of the Baha'i community which has had members on both boards. In 2007 the event was expanded from an "in-house" event to a more public venue and greater promotion. It was held at the Greensboro Historical Museum which has an auditorium and lobby area. The presentations were an interfaith effort and well attended given a freezing rain. For 2008 the host will be a synagogue with support from the adjacent Hebrew Academy. Naturally representatives of other faiths are being invited. The program is well under way and will be shared when complete.
