Description

World Religion Day Celebration 2011, Halifax, NS

World Religion Day was celebrated on January 16th in the new inter-Faith Peace and Reflection Room at Mount Saint Vincent University, Halifax, NS. The event was the result of collaboration between Mount Saint Vincent University and the Baha’i Community of Halifax Regional Municipality. An audience of 85-90 members and participants enjoyed an afternoon of warmth, unity and harmony.

The sounds of a harp greeted people as they arrived. The president of the Mount welcomed the audience and a Baha’i student at the Mount spoke about the background of World Religion Day. The program opened with a Mi’kmaq smudge ceremony and chant. Representatives from Hinduism, Judaism, Zoroastrianism, Islam and from the Sisters of Charity of Mount Saint Vincent presented prayers and readings from sacred Writings. Members of the Shambhala Buddhist Centre gave a reading followed by two songs and the Baha’is presented a prayer with music played on a harp and santoor.

The program was followed by a reception that reflected the warmth and harmony of the program.
