Buddhists, Christians, Hindus, Baha'is and Jews joined hands in song, dance and prayer on Sunday at a special ceremony at Grace United Church. While similar events were held around the globe in recognition of the 19th Annual World Religion Day, a small crowd gathered in Dunnville with "Celebrating Joy in Religion" as the afternoon's theme.
"It's a time for us to come together and learn about each other's religions," said emcee Maureen Jones, "because we know in the past, there have been so many problems due to misunderstandings of each other's religions. So it's wonderful that in our community and many others around the world today, we are trying to come to a better understanding and acceptance, and maybe some peace in this world."
Mary White from Grace United Church talked about the joy that comes from being a Christian. "Happiness is a feeling based on our life circumstances and what happens to us, but Christian joy is based on three things," she said.
